Fostering a child is one of the most important things a person can do for a child. It is not always the easiest job and it requires a lot of hard work, patience, and dedication on the part of foster parents. However, there is nothing in the world that can replace the feeling of helping out a child; and in the end, that is why we choose to work with parents and children.
Becoming a foster parent is a process. It begins with making a decision on wanting to welcome a child into your home and ends with getting certified as a Resource Family through Atkinson Family Services.

Nancy Duncan
My name is Nancy Duncan: I was a foster child in Atkinson Youth Services from the age of 11 to 18.
I was lucky enough to be in a placement where I was loved unconditionally, and where I was taught the value of family, work and quality. I was encouraged to problem solve with my natural family and I also made lasting relationships with my foster siblings.
My husband and I are now foster parents, helping other foster children find the same security and opportunity.
